Mountain snow returns to the Northern Rockies beginning late Saturday and continuing through Monday morning. The heaviest accumulations are expected near the Continental Divide in southwest Montana, with snow levels as low as 3,000 feet.
Drivers traversing mountain passes and backcountry roads should prepare for quick transition from slushy to snow-covered, with the most hazardous travel expected during the overnight and early morning hours.
Anyone recreating in the backcountry must prepare for cold, wet, and windy conditions. Exposure to these elements will significantly increase the risk of hypothermia over the weekend.
